Most consumer and guru guides will tell you that at 32″ all you need is a good brand and good model, but basic LCD. So that means a CCFL LCD of 720p and 60Hz. You just won’t see the advantages of the higher end features. If you end up with any better features in your budget, or with the TV you really want, hey great, they won’t hurt your viewing experience. But general consensus is that you won’t get the bang for your buck at all if you pay extra for them.
The big name brands at that size are Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony first and foremost. I would start with those 3 and then maybe work my way out. After those 3 you can look at Sharp Aquos, LG, and Toshiba primarily.
Models (right now @ Best Buy)
Panasonic TC-L32X1 – on sale for $ 478, normally $ 600
Samsung LN32B460 – on sale for $ 552, normally $ 650
Sony KDL-32L5000 – on sale for $ 480, normally $ 548
I’m a personal fan of the Panasonic. I think it has better color and blacks than the other two. But that is purely an aesthetic/personal taste thing. You do need to go check out the models in a store and see which on your eye likes best.
If you do want to make a spalsh, and get a “loaded” 32″ set, then perhaps look at,
Samsung LN32B640 – on sale for $ 800, normally $ 1,100
- but again, I think that’s overkill for a 32″ set.
